Early morning multi-alarm fire keeps crews busy for hours

Initial dispatch @ 0444 - Companies 3, 2 and 1 and EMS 20 were initally dispatched to the 300 block of Juniata Street, Mifflin Borough, for an appartment building fire. Engine 32-2 responded and immediately upgraded the box to a Task Force assignment. Firefighters made entry into the main fire building, after fire vented through the roof and jumped across to the neighboring house, an evacuation was called and all personnel exited the building and master-streams were put into place via Truck 27, Truck 1-1, Truck 11-1 and ground master-streams. After a long fire fight, units made entry into both structures to douse hot spots and began over haul. Units were on scene for approx 9+ hours. The Red Cross was called to assist the displaced homeowners - 13 people homeless. NO injuries were reported and two cats that were trapped survived and were taken to the local vet for an examination. Local schools were closed due to the water company shutting down water except to the fire scene to aid in supplying the huge demand to battle the blaze. (PICTURES!).

Initial dispatch @ 1814 - Company 2, Company 1 (for an engine), EMS 8 were dispatched to 322 E/B for a vehicle fire. Second call back stated there was no fire and requested fire department to cancel. Chef 21-3 placed the box available.

Rescue 29 assists on fatal pedestrian struck

Initial dispatch @ 1011 - Rescue 29 was dispatched to Rt 235 at Town Ridge Rd for a pedestrian struck possible entrapment. Rescue 29 arrived on scene with other fire and EMS apparatus to find a male patient struck by a dump trunk, pinned, deceased. Pt was pronouced Class 4 @ 1019. PSP investigated the scene. At 1210, Rescue 29's crew helped extricate the Pt after Maye's trucking arrived on scene to lift the dump truck. Rescue 29 was on scene until being placed available by command @ 1237. The driver of the dump truck was transported to Lewistown Hospital for chest pains. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the deceased.

Engine 22 dispatched for manpower to Lack Twp for a wildfire

Initial dispatch @ 1537 - Engine 22 was dispatched to Black Log Rd in Lack Twp for a wildfire, manpower only. After a long haul to the scene Co 2 personnel assisted fire and forestry personnel on scene. At 1831, Chief 71-2 placed the box available. Forestry crews stayed on scene for some small mop-up.

Co 2 due for a possible structure fire in Beale Twp - cancelled
Initial dispatch @ 2031 - Co 2 was dispatched to Beale Twp for a possible structure fire. Ladder 27 responded with a full crew. Rescue 29 responded shortly after. Chief 51 arrived on scene to find a brush fire, now out, holding the box to Engine 52. Comapny 2 available at 2039.

Engine 22 and Ladder 27 assist on a structure fire in Lack Twp

Initial dispatch @ 1710 - First Ladder 27 was requested to the the scene of a structure fire in Lack Twp at McCoysville Rd and McKinnley Rd, assisting companies already on scene. At 1727, Engine 22 was dispatched to the scene for manpower. Ladder 27 arrived and began truckwork. Engine 22 arrived and assisted on overhauling the inside of the structure. The structure was vacant and was planned on being moved into with a few days. The PA fire marshall was requested to the scene for an investigation. Company 2 apparatus was clear from the scene at 1923.

Rescue 29 dispatched for Lift Assist

Initial dispatch @ 1226 - Rescue 29 was dispatched per EMS 20 to Horningtown Rd for a lift assist. Rescue 29 arrived on scene, assisted EMS with loading the Pt and was available at 1236

MVC with entrapment on Chicken Plant Rd
Initial dispatch @ 1323 - Co 2, EMS 20, Medic 29, Medic 1 were dispatched to Chicken Plant in the area of the farm for an MVC reported two vehicles, head on, three patients, unknown confinement or entrapment. Capt 21 arrived on scene with two vehicles on the roadway, three patients - one entrapt, two confined. Medic 29 placed air-medical on standby while en route. Rescue 29 arrived on scene, pulled tools and went to work while Engine 22 arrived on scene and pulled an 1 3/4" handline. All three patients were extricated within 15 minutes of Rescue 29 arriving on scene. The passenger of the first car was flown from Mifflintown Airport to Geisinger Medical Center, the passenger later passed away due to injuries. The driver of the first car was flown to Geisinger from Lewistown Hospital. The operator of the second car was taken by ground to Lewistown Hospital and later flown to Geisinger for a C4 fracture. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the deceased.

Initial dispatch @ 0951 - Company 2 (Engine 22) dispatched to Tuscarora Twp, Price Rd, Box 701, assisting on an outside fire impinging on a house. Engine 22 responded with 5. Reported rubish fire outside caught the side of a house on fire. The fire on the side of the house was extinguished and the box was held to Co 7, 5 and 1. Engine 22 cancelled en route. Engine 22 in service at 1011.

Engine 22 assists Company 4 on trees and wires down

Initial dispatch @ 0138 - Company 2 (Engine 22) along with Company 4 and EMS 4 were dispatched to Laurel Run Road for tree and wires down. Engine 22 w/ Chief 21-3 responded on the call. Engine 22 arrived on scene to find Chief 41 on scene with command. One large tree across the roadway with power lines down, with small fire on tree. ETA for PP&L was 50 min. PP&L arrived on scene at 0325. Engine 42 and Engine 62 handling cutting up the tree as soon as PP&L killed power to the lines involved. Chief 41 released Engine 22 at 0328.

Small mulch fire starts the month of April for Company 2

Initial dispatch @ 0754 - Company 2 and EMS 20 dispatched to Mifflintown Boro, Minnick Lane, behind the Juniata Valley Bank for a mulch fire. Engine 22 arrived on scene with small mulch fire that had been smoldering for a while. Booster line was pulled and box was cleared shortly thereafter by Chief 21.
